Denpasar City Traditional Market Revitalization Program 2011

The government of Denpasar city plays an important role in accelerating the process of the revitalization of traditional markets. Revitalization of “Pasar Agung” Market was one of Denpasar city’s development programs carried out in a creative way with excellent and well balancing cultural touches. Ida Bagus Rai Dharmawijaya, the mayor of Denpasar City emphasized that the Denpasar City government would continue to revitalize traditional markets so that they would continue to exist and attract buyers amid the mushrooming of modern markets like hypermarkets.

Revitalization of traditional markets is one of the priority measures in order to develop the competitiveness of the traditional market, so the market has strength in the economic development of the people. This is an alternative to develop local economic forces that impact on poverty reduction.

Revitalization is not only signified a change in the sense of physical facilities, but also about strengthening human resources and development of public space in the development of traditional markets.

Several programs in revitalizing traditional market in Denpasar begin in April 2011 and started with some studies and forum group discussion. The next step will be workshop to communicating the result of studies. Some of the data displayed as series of infographics. The result from this workshop will be proper recommendation to be executed in communications strategy and some media campaign.
